楊善深創(chuàng)作中西兼取，注重寫生，在繼承“嶺南畫派”優(yōu)良傳統(tǒng)的基礎上另辟途徑，形成了鮮明的個人風格，成為當代“嶺南畫派”主要代表畫家。

他的繪畫題材廣泛，作品構(gòu)思新穎，筆墨凝練，巧拙互用，雄放而不失秀雅。最為人稱道的當屬其動物畫。對動物的描繪，貫穿楊善深的一生，這也是發(fā)揚了嶺南畫派熱衷描繪動物的優(yōu)良傳統(tǒng)。
